Fresh off her Marvel debut, Sadie Sink has offered fans the clearest hint yet about when Marvel Studios’ long-awaited X-Men reboot will actually roll cameras, and it sounds like it’s coming sooner than you might think.
A filming window comes into focus
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Sink, who plays Jean Grey, discussed her upcoming slate and indicated she’ll shoot the X-Men film before moving on to a new FX and A24 series next year. Reading between the lines, that positions the reboot to begin production in the relatively near term, welcome news for a project that has been building anticipation for a long time. Sink also reflected on the freedom in her schedule now that Stranger Things has wrapped, noting how strange it will feel next year not to be heading back to Atlanta for another season.
Sink made her MCU entrance as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a role Marvel kept tightly under wraps until the film arrived. That appearance is designed as a launchpad for the character’s larger future in the universe, beginning with the reboot.
Who’s assembling the team
The reboot is being directed by Jake Schreier. On the casting front, Kit Connor has been reported as the studio’s choice for Cyclops/Scott Summers, while Bill Skarsgård and Tom Pelphrey have been floated in reports as contenders for Professor X. Sink, for her part, says she’s being kept somewhat in the dark on the Cyclops search, learning about it largely through Schreier rather than from inside the process, and acknowledged the swirl of online rumors surrounding the film.
She also spoke warmly about what draws her to Jean Grey, describing the X-Men’s women as powerful and complex figures whose abilities bring both strength and real personal cost, and noting that starting with the more troubled side of Jean’s powers made the character compelling to play.
Still early days
For now, most of the roster remains unconfirmed, with much of the casting still rumored rather than official. But between a director in place, a growing shortlist of names, and a lead actress signaling that production is on the horizon, Marvel’s mutant reboot is inching from speculation toward reality.
